Writers of periodical publications often have difficulty maintaining a consistent level of quality and/or frequency in their work. Blog writers have an added difficulty, in that there are few repercussions when missing deadlines (if deadlines even exist). Blogs can go for months without updates… just like this one.
I always recognize that saying, “I’m too busy” actually means, “I don’t care” - “this is not a priority for me”. Would you say that to somebody’s face? If somebody is too busy to get something done, they simply don’t care enough to prioritize the action.
This isn’t a criticism (or a self-flagellation), but it is important to understand that, if something needs to be completed, it’s important to find a way to get it done, or it just becomes rude to ignore it. Find somebody who will do the job, reassess your priorities, or own your disinterest, forget about it, and let it go.
I’m choosing the middle ground – I don’t want to let this blog go, and I don’t want to delegate it away, so I’ll find the time to write it. Quality may vary, but what the hell – I’ll have to maintain frequency, if not quality.
To do anything less would just be ill-mannered.
